Forced Baggin'

Photobucket
Tell r5 how this makes sense:
"The 2010 NEET criterium series is drawing 75% of its riders from category 1-3. As a result, beginning April 6 the "A" event will consist of category 1-3 riders and the "B" event will host categories 4-5."

Cat4's have been doing the A-race for years without a problem. Some of them finish in the top 10. Even some 5's have snuck in on occasion. So why the change now? r5's guess is that 360 wants the equivalent of taking the ball home and not letting anyone else play.
This is what typically happens in the B-race: about 10 guys simply ride off the front without having to attack while the remaining 30 dudes time trial for about 30 minutes. Pack skills learned= ZERO. Cornering skills learned= ZERO.
What do you think will happen when you force the Cat4's who have been hangin in the A-race at 28mph to ride the B-race where the average speed is closer to 21? Its gonna be 40 dudes who paid $60 to ride in a bike rodeo. The 4's might as well go hammer the yuppie racer wanna-bes group rides like Blue Moose. At least thats free and they probably won't have to look at any stupid ass 360 jerseys.

And BTW, if you were part of the pack that dropped out last night after the rain, then you should be forced to do the B-race because you're a bunch of pussies.

  1. If those '4's' r that strong and they hang in the 'A' race and compete in the finishing sprint, then they need to 'cat TFU' to a '3'. This seems to be a great motivator for guys to acquire necessary strength and speed and to 'cat' up so that they can compete on a weekly bassis at the local 'A' race on Tuesday nites. Looks like Chris Hess is doing is exactly what you Colivita and Bike Shack guys want. He is helping to motivate 'Baggers' to move up and on to the next level. Now you are going to whine and cry about it. You guys can't have it both ways! Do you want guys to continue to 'bag' or do you want them to 'CTFU' ??

  2. I think the main objective of this blog should no longer be about who should cat up, but instead calling out people who suck at life.

  3. Good point, and I think this post is doing just that: By running a photo of C Locke.

Dude lives like five miles from where he works, yet somehow rides a 50 mile route to/from work during Bike Week or whatever. "Wins" that thing every year, no matter what.

He's potentially a bigger tool than Studnicki, or than the latte guy who runs SuKC Racing.

(r5, I thought you've been showing mad MS Paint skillz lately; why run an undoctored photo of Locke?)

  4. I don't know C Locke, but I hardly think taking away your "Ride To Work Week" Award qualifies him as a tool.

  5. Of course the weather scared away the the real pussies since you weren't there last night and read that off TP's blog. Rain wasn't the issue, crazy side winds with echelons running into the curbs was. show up and ride it instead of hearing about what happened from somebody else.

  6. Maybe, just maybe the new Tues night rule could be a good thing. It could force the B's race to be more competitive, faster and force strategy into the race, which in turn, will arguably teach a few people a thing or two. Not to mention, it will force the Cat 4 guys, who generally "sit in" and get pulled around in the A's race to work harder, which again, in turn, will make them faster. I'm sure people could bitch all day about this, sure, but instead of bitch, just accept it, move on and figure out how it could actually work to your and everyone else's advantage. I'm just sayin'

  7. So where da fuck these tuesday night warriors at during the Springflings and Dam Races this year? Jim and Roger bust their ass putting on these races and attendance has been shit lately and weather has mostly been good. Talk about pussies.

  8. what about all those new people to the sport? It's supposed to be a practice crit!!!! And if it's your first year racing and you are a cat 5 then you will not have a chance to learn how to race because you will be force to race with people that are way faster then you. Also I have seen it before when there is a fast cat 5 racing with some fast 4's but the cat 5 has not learned any skills you are putting all the cat 4 at risk of getting hurt from the cat 5 racer. It's different racing today compare to 8 years ago when a cat 4/5 field topped out at 25 racers. And last maybe more 4 would cat up if there was not so many people that have been living as a Cat 3 for the last 8 years. Those are bitches that need to HTFU and CTFU

  9. I think the lack of spring fling turnout is due to a few things. 1 is the shitty late weather. 2 is the rising #'s of cx and racing later into the winter.
and 3 is the promoters and the races themselves. I have raced road for maybe 7 seasons. that being said, jim whitaker is a polarizing figure in our kc cycling scene. i some people have chosen not to due his races, for their own particular reasons. yes, they may be personal or even spiteful. just one persons' opinion. i feel like the quality and the organization of the races in question lack quite a bit, enough so that i choose to spend my money on other races. i.e. mtb for example(if it ever stops raining). this is my choice. instead of paying to race a lesser quality race, i feel like i can go get a great ride in with some guys that are faster than me and simulate race effort or i can go get a good solo ride in. I for one have a family and must make choices because i cant race in every race in the area. so i choose to spend my money and what little free time on i have towards mtb, cx and some selected road or crit races. just one guys take.

  10. I SUPPOSE men to have reached the point at which the obstacles in the way of their preservation in the state of nature show their power of resistance to be greater than the resources at the disposal of each individual for his maintenance in that state. That primitive condition can then subsist no longer; and the human race would perish unless it changed its manner of existence.

But, as men cannot engender new forces, but only unite and direct existing ones, they have no other means of preserving themselves than the formation, by aggregation, of a sum of forces great enough to overcome the resistance. These they have to bring into play by means of a single motive power, and cause to act in concert.

This sum of forces can arise only where several persons come together: but, as the force and liberty of each man are the chief instruments of his self-preservation, how can he pledge them without harming his own interests, and neglecting the care he owes to himself? This difficulty, in its bearing on my present subject, may be stated in the following terms:

"The problem is to find a form of association which will defend and protect with the whole common force the person and goods of each associate, and in which each, while uniting himself with all, may still obey himself alone, and remain as free as before." This is the fundamental problem of which the Social Contract provides the solution.

The clauses of this contract are so determined by the nature of the act that the slightest modification would make them vain and ineffective; so that, although they have perhaps never been formally set forth, they are everywhere the same and everywhere tacitly admitted and recognised, until, on the violation of the social compact, each regains his original rights and resumes his natural liberty, while losing the conventional liberty in favour of which he renounced it.

These clauses, properly understood, may be reduced to one — the total alienation of each associate, together with all his rights, to the whole community; for, in the first place, as each gives himself absolutely, the conditions are the same for all; and, this being so, no one has any interest in making them burdensome to others.

Moreover, the alienation being without reserve, the union is as perfect as it can be, and no associate has anything more to demand: for, if the individuals retained certain rights, as there would be no common superior to decide between them and the public, each, being on one point his own judge, would ask to be so on all; the state of nature would thus continue, and the association would necessarily become inoperative or tyrannical.

Finally, each man, in giving himself to all, gives himself to nobody; and as there is no associate over whom he does not acquire the same right as he yields others over himself, he gains an equivalent for everything he loses, and an increase of force for the preservation of what he has.

If then we discard from the social compact what is not of its essence, we shall find that it reduces itself to the following terms:

"Each of us puts his person and all his power in common under the supreme direction of the general will, and, in our corporate capacity, we receive each member as an indivisible part of the whole."

  11. actually thought about bringing some new guys to the tuesday crits to introduce them to racing but now that the b-race is not strictly beginner level, i'm not so sure mixing all these guys in together is a good idea. there has to be an inexpensive non-intimidating way to get people into racing but that might be asking too much. fuckit, it would be great to see my buddies in ther cookie monster and grateful dead jerseys dust all you cat4 baggers.

  12. "Hey, Rousseau, I have received your new book against the human race, and thank you for it. Never was such a cleverness used in the design of making us all stupid. One longs, in reading your book, to walk on all fours. But as I have lost that habit for more than sixty years, I feel unhappily the impossibility of resuming it. Nor can I embark in search of the savages of Canada, because the maladies to which I am condemned render a European surgeon necessary to me; because war is going on in those regions; and because the example of our actions has made the savages nearly as bad as ourselves."

  16. Time for a new post...and preferably one without the 'usual suspects'. References to 360, studnicki, jb and all that esoteric dialog & quote crap - all getting stale. Come on r5! I know you (and your loyal readers who post comments) can do it! Bring on some fresh meat! make some new call outs! We're falling asleep here!

  19. Good god you guys take yourselves seriously for a bunch of amateurs. Some of us with a family, serious careers, community ties and long term goals actually agree with Chris Hess's decision and Aubrey's perspective. It's not a conspiracy, evil plan or defining rule for local cycling. It's a practice race that challenges everyone similarly: is this race good for me, can I get something positive from it, and will I have fun? If so, give it a shot and apply lessons learned to your advantage. If not, don't race. It doesn't make you a pussy or a stud either way. Making a reasoned decision and seeing it through makes you a quality person. Dude, it's a hobby, not your job you dick. JC

  20. I think r5 is ACTUALLY Bill More-shull. He's a dick but at least he's honest about being a dick. Bill? Step up to the microphone and tell us it's really you! Anon on April 16 @7:05? Why the hell would you even take the time to open up your pneumonia hole and redress a bunch of amateurs who don't give a rat's ass about you, your "serious" career, community ties, and long term goals? Spare the sob story and stay off this awesomeness of a blog. No...wait..stay here and take some more abuse. By the way, it's ALL a conspiracy, evil plan, and the Man is watching each and every one of you AND...I AM the Man. Maybe it is my jobby job! Maybe just maybe I DO get paid to suck in the Crash 5's. Good times man...good times. Keep it up Bill "r5" More-shull.
